When Summer Ends
What happens when summer ends? The nights become cooler, and the leaves change color. Refreshing rain and cool breezes chill the air. The flowers start to go dormant, but with the change of seasons, new beauty arises. There are many things that change, but one is unexpected – people’s moods.
Over the last couple week, I have heard so many people say how much they dislike autumn weather and how depressed it makes them. How is it that people base their happiness on the temperature of the air? And why? Our happiness should not just come from things of this world, especially things we can’t control. We will never be happy this way, because we will always be let down by the things and the events around us. This is why I believe we should seek to find joy from the One who can control those things. I know it sounds impossible, but this notion is mentioned throughout the Psalms and in many other verses.
Psalm 16:11 states, “You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
This is shown again in 37:4, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
This is my challenge to you. Instead of placing your happiness in things we have no control over, let us find joy in the Creator. He did, after all, orchestrate the beauty of this world, and He saw that all of it was good.
